19th Annual “Earthquakes:  Mean Business”
To be held Friday, February 3, 2012, at Saint Louis University

             The 19th annual “Earthquakes:  Mean Business” event will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012, at Saint Louis University.  The purpose of the program is to increase awareness of earthquake hazards and earthquake risks in the central US and how business and government can better prepare. 

             “Earthquakes:  Mean Business” is especially planned for those in the public and private sector who are interested in earthquake hazards, earthquake risks, risk mitigation, business continuity, emergency planning, emergency management, and business continuity.

             In the morning, speakers will address engineering, planning, geoscience, and risk management of the central US earthquake issue.  Confirmed speakers include:

  • Chris Poland, PE, SE, Chief Executive Officer of Degenkolb Engineers; Oakland, Calif.;
  • Dr. Lucy Arendt; Organizational Strategic Management; University of Wisconsin, Green Bay;
  • Dr. Sandra Knight, PE; FEMA Deputy Federal Insurance & Mitigation Administrator; Washington, DC;
  • Dr. Mary Lou Zoback; Consulting Professor; Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif.; and US Geological Survey (retired).

             There will be a selection of break-out sessions in the afternoon.  St. Louis University’s Earthquake Center will also be open for tours throughout the afternoon.

 There will be exhibit booths that will provide additional information and handouts on the central US earthquake issue.   Saint Louis University will also award CEUs or PDHs to participants.  Registration, which includes lunch, parking, exhibits, and CEUs / PDHs, is $95.00.

Thanks for visiting our site! The CPCU St Louis Chapter is made up of over 225 insurance professionals from all facets of the insurance business in the St Louis Metropolitan area.  Our chapter has consistently won national awards at the Society's Annual Meetings & Seminars.  We are committed to providing quality continuing education for our members to help them maintain the professionalism associated with the CPCU designation.

Our chapter is also involved in many activities that benefit the community at large.  Programs such as warm clothing, coats, toys and food drives; donation of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and VHS tapes to nursing homes are important to the St Louis Chapter CPCU.

Educational offerings include workshops and seminars.

Our chapter meets once a month from September through May of each year (generally the third Tuesday of the month).  Please see our updated Calendar for upcoming events.
